If desired, insulation can be installed between the existing shingle and standing seam metal roof. It will save energy by reducing the amount required to heat or cool a building. This will also create an air gap which acts as a buffer to prevent the metal from heating the shingles beneath it in the summer. This method also reduces the risk of large hail damaging metal roofs.
